CHICAGO Store Spotlight: Salvation Army

About 2 months ago, I had the pleasure of visiting a close college friend (more like a sister) of mine that happens to live in Chicago. This was my second time visiting the Windy City and though my first time was filled with seeing more tourist sites, this time around I was determined to explore the thrift stores!!!
Well, the 1st thrift store happen to be not too far from Midway Airport (I had only been in Chi Town for an hour, and already found a thirft store) and we went to many more over the weekend, and oh, let me tell you, I was in Thrifting Heaven! For some people the smell and all the racks may be a little overwhelming, but for me, I do not mind it especially when i know hidden beneath all of that could be a designer piece of clothing for barely nothing or that item that I've been looking to add to my wardrobe! And it's also a little sentimental for me, I've been going to thrift stores since I was a little girl with my Grandma.
Well, see the details below on one of the many stores I shopped and the Luv Jones Find!

Striking in Stripes

(Dress-Taylor, avail at Lord & Taylor; Pumps- Jessica Simpson; Necklace & Bangles- H&M; Earrings- Ebay)

With the insanely hot weather that we've been experiencing lately, it has also provided a challenge in what to wear to work (especially, when you have a conservative dress code...a little exposure of the shoulders never hurt anyone!).
So, with me being the bargain hunter that I am, I could not pass up this strinkingly striped dress by Taylor (sadly, it's not vintage or thrifted, but still FAB & over 50% off the orig price). Once I saw it, I started to visualize how I would style it...my Jessica Simpson Royal Blue suede pumps would be perfect. But I'm not a fan of being matchy matchy so I had to throw in something unexpected....so in comes the neon accessories (oh how i am right on trend with the stripes & neon, and still somewhat work appropriate..a pashmina will cover those pesky arms while i am inside the office).
Enjoy :)

Inspired

(Pants-Zara; Pumps- Boutique 9; Blouse-Kate Hill, Lord & Taylor;Cuff Bracelet-Pink Accessories Store, NYC; Blazer-Thrifted; Earrings-Ebay; Scarves-Thrifted)

One of my favorite celebs is Solange Knowles. I think that all around she has great style, along with an awesome personality! In regards to her style, I love her knack for mixing prints & colors, and just making everything look so cool & effortless. So I decided to take a little style inspiration from her and put together a work appropriate outfit!
Enjoy!

In the Jungle

(Dress- Thrifted; Earrings- Ebay; Belt- Strawberry; Bangles- Forever 21; Pumps-Boutique 9; Lipstick-CoverGirl Queen Collection)

As an avid thrifter (or better yet addictive thrifter), I have many thrifted pieces of clothing that seem to get lost in my closet just like the item above. I bought this dress awhile ago and never got around to wearing it until a couple of my friends and I decided to have a "Totally 80's" theme day.
I could have easily have went the route of brights, or neon colors, but I decided to think outside of the box, and go with what a working woman (hopefully in the fashion industry) would have worn. I'm sure someone out there wore this dress back in the 80's and if not, at least I would have worn it (with my collar popped, shoulder pads & red lipstick!)
